SPD device reduces overvoltages to safety values and limits the strong disturbances induced on power lines by protecting electronic equipment from failures and malfunctions.

The frequent recurrence of high-intensity atmospheric events makes it necessary to protect electronic equipment, especially in plants where the risk is higher and in continuous operation.

The effects that atmospheric discharges can cause are:

  • overvoltages on the power lines;
  • electromagnetic fields which induce overvoltages both on the power supply lines and on the grounding conductors;
  • strong overvoltages with catastrophic consequences on the directly affected lines.The SPD device, in single-phase or three-phase version, combines the high discharge capacity of the pulse current typical of the spark gaps with the high degree of protection of the varistors, thus being able to define varistore-spark gap.
